Churchill United and Falcons 2000 have both qualified for the next stage of the FFV state knockout cup after winning their respective semi-final matches for the GSL Battle of Brittan Cup. Falcons 2000 defeated the reigning Gippsland Soccer League's Champions Fortuna 60 3-2 in extra time. Churchill United also required extra time to eventually defeat Traralgon Olympians 2 – 1. The final of the Battle of Brittan Cup will not be held until the end of the season on 2nd September.
For Falcons 2000 this will be the second time that they will compete in the FFV State Knockout Cup. Last year they hosted then VPL club Springvale White Eagles at Latrobe City Sports Club, the former home of their predecessor National Soccer League club Morwell Falcons. That match was a one sided affair with Springvale White Eagles winning 8 – 0.
Round 1 of the Gippsland Soccer League starts next Friday when two matches will be played on Friday night. Champion's Fortuna 60 host Traralgon Olympians while Churchill United host Falcons 2000. On Sunday it will be Monash v Sale United, Moe United v Newborough – Yallourn and finally Traralgon City v Tyres.
